    Brake bleeding and pad material

My new Mirage's brakes did not inspire confidence. I figured it was the rust on the rotors and that they needed time to break-in. After a few weeks they still felt spongy with a little too much pedal travel.

I brought it in and they said everything was normal. I took it upon myself to borrow a bleed kit and bled the brakes myself.

I was hoping for a night and day difference, but was satisfied enough with a slightly firmer pedal.

I saw that the 2017 have larger rotors and different pad material. I was thinking of trying a pad with more bite. Any tips or recommendations? What are your experiences with the brakes?

RockAuto lists ceramic pads (WAGNER ThermoQuiet, Power STOP, etc) take a look.

2017 brakes will probably need more than just pads and rotors. New calipers? mounting hardware?

Yes, I don't think I want to go that far. But maybe trying some cheap semi-metalic pads on the existing set-up.

We don't have part numbers for the 2017 Mirage brakes yet, but as soon as we get them they'll be posted here:

    Mirage brake history (factory revisions/changes)

If any of our people who work at dealers could get us those part numbers we'd be appreciative!

My guess is they'll have a larger rotor and a new mounting bracket. The the caliper will stay the same, the pad will be the same size and shape, but they did say they're using a different material. Again my guess is they probably went from organic compound to ceramic.
Custom Mirage products: Cruise control kit, Glove box light, MAF sensor housing, Rear sway bar, Upper grill block

Current project: DIY Nitrous oxide setup for ~$100

The Wagners are $21/pair, and members of this forum get 5% off code (check RockAuto section).

It looks like OE pads are by Power Stop and ceramic too.

The OE brake pads for the '14s and '15s are made by Akebono, and are semi-metallic.

I remember reading somewhere that the brakes were by Akebono, too.

Not spongy and no abnormal pedal travel on mine. I think the brakes are rather good.
