I used to live in a very remote part of Oregon where UPS had one that they used. They would average about 300 miles a day and it had over 400,000 miles without a hiccup. I used to run a airport so I would chat with the driver's when they were waiting for the plane. Other than normal maintenance items, tires, struts, brakes, plugs, oil changes, transmission filter and fluid every 100k and timing belt replacement at the scheduled mileage no mechanical problems. They had hit a deer with it a few years back so the hood was all jacked up and the grill was missing. They are a lot tougher than people think.
I hear the same issues with Honda Odyssey minivans and bad transmissions. For the amount of Grand Caravans, Town and Country and Volkswagen Routans on the road, the issues do not seem that bad.
