A new development for anyone attempting this mod, an oil leak that seems to be at the adapter that screws into the block that replaces the OE filter. More info forthcoming as it becomes available.

I've had a look at the adapter, it was loose along with one of the threaded elbows that the hoses use.I'm going to use oil resistant Loctite on the adapter attachment point as well as thread sealant on the elbow threads instead of teflon tape.

The leak is repaired, I ditched the teflon tape in favour of thread sealer this brand is what's available here Loctite is the equivalent in the US. The threaded attachment for the block adapter got this Loctite 243, It's oil resistant.
While I had the system apart I replaced a 45° elbow with a 90° one as it was contacting the engine and causing some weird vibrations through the gas pedal, here is the old one.... compared to the new.... I torqued the engine block adapter down good using the attached elbows with a wrench, I will be surprised if this comes loose....edited to add: I also used 2 hose clamps per fitting down at the engine block adapter just to be on the safe side.

Just a quick update that the re-work was successful, no leaks. The right angle fitting on the firewall filter mount cured the vibration through the gas pedal too.
Another thing, I used a Quaker State QS8A oil filter because is was the only one cross referenced to the Fram PH8A that Hayden listed as a fit for their adapter that I could locate in Crappy Tire....and it had to be a bit better quality than the Fram,I hoped.
So after my hip replacement I went out and bought 2 Napa gold 1515 filters that all the x-cross tables listed next to the QS8A, the only trouble is the 1515's are too "fat" by about 1/4" to fit the Hayden adapter, the exact dimensional equivalent for the QS8A is the Napa 1516! Good thing the Napa clerk exchanged the one I had left for the 1516 as I had lost the receipt.

Over the last 2 months I noticed a small but steady drop in the oil level, just like with an old engine past it's prime.
No oil spots on the driveway but the oil and transmission pan were damp with oil....weird.
So I wrapped a rag around the engine block adapter where it meets the block and a few days later pulled it.
Just damp...so back in we go and found the adapter's O-ring is juuust meeting the outside edge of the flat boss on the engine block.
So under load and at speed the O-ring was allowing a bit of oil by and wetting the bottom of the engine.
So here's a photo of the adapter....I ran a bead of Permatex Ultra black gasket maker around the flange inside the O-ring marked in red.... not much, about a 16th of an inch diameter.
Now it's tight and (hopefully) will stay that way. Also made sure that the boss and flange areas were carefully de-greased,or else this buckshee repair will not work!

It's been 2 weeks now and the oil level hasn't dropped at all.The underside of the car is dry....I think I've nailed it, now I can do a complete oil/filter change in the dead of winter without crawling under the car thanks to my oil vacuum extractor
