    No trouble, I didn't want to leave this thread incomplete, warts and all just in case someone else followed my example and ended up cussing me under their breath, or worse still burning an engine up!

    You would need to use yellow or pink gas teflon tape (or gas rated pipe dope) to keep it from degrading from the hydrocarbons in the oil.

    Or at least that's my guess.

    I love the updates and feel like anyone with a MOD should do updates - as needed.

    I dont really see the annoyance of changing the oil filter. The oil lip does a good job and I've changed other filters with a more weird angle/hard to reach.

    I know it was mentioned that an oil cooler is not needed as the coolant+radiator does the job, but I think adding an oil cooler is part of "over-engineering" and should only help. Personally, if I could, I'd add an oil and tranny cooler.

    I am changing my oil and filter today and the temperature outside is -27Celcius, -16Fahrenheit without the windchill factor.( with the windchill it's -40 degrees today....both scales )

    It's going to stay there for the next few days & I don't have a garage I can work in.

    Anything I can do to speed the job up I do, including a manual vacuum extractor for the oil...once most people try this they don't return to gravity draining the oil pan....

    That still leaves the full flow filter in it's original place, yes? So while the bypass filter can be changed easier (usually) the one that I find a chore to change is still there. I might use a bypass filter system in a diesel engine.

    The remote filter on my firewall is about double the size of the OE one so I think I'm ahead of the game.

    I have no such problems!
    bought a filter cap and use it for effortlessly and easily changing the filter.
    I use a WIX/Filton OP575 filter that has an integrated bypass plus a very good (silicone) non-return valve that prevents dry starting, what some eroneously call "valve clutter on startup".
    The filtron is a bit bigger than the OEM, and capable of removing 2m particles(!). Most other filters get rid of 20 at best. There are some good threads about this, for example see:
