I have recently asked if there are any Mitsubishi Mirage car clubs in the US and I hear there is not. Well I found this group on instagram call Mirage Society. They areout of Panama however so I decided to make a facebook page for all of us to join.

I'm a Marketing and Accounting major, I can say you are correct about large data collection. Just wrote a technical description about ethics in marketing data recording methods. Thats why I never post personal stuff, numbers, emails.

I am a Facebook refugee. The whole purpose of Facebook is to collect data on you so I shut my profile down last year and escaped their evil data collecting ways

I'm behind this. I follow them on IG and they have some pretty sweet 'rages over there. However I'm with everyone else and do not facebook. I have one but it's for contact purposes with people all over (Mainly family in Europe), but I feel it has too much drama for me to really use regularly.

I do want to be a part of this club though! Mirage society will take over!

Hey everyone -

After talking about this with Tim (Daox) and Truezydale, we removed the Facebook link from the first post. We want to explain why:

We love how the community has grown to where it is today, and how passionate everyone is, to the point of wanting to create Facebook groups to celebrate the car. Unfortunately, Facebook is a threat to THIS place. Tim and I have both seen FB kill a vibrant car forum.

There's no doubt that FB is a great way for people to keep in touch. Nobody does that better. But a FB Mirage page will start to pull light-hearted "chatter" away from the forum. The forum posts will shift to become mostly technical or problem-related or news-related, and with fewer people hanging around the forum, it loses its friendly vibe. It loses the sense of community. Traffic drops, posting declines, and members stop visiting as much. Visitors see a less active forum, so they don't join. It sets up a death spiral.

We're not trying to be jerks. We think the forum offers a lot of positive things that Facebook simply does not: things like better searchability, the garage feature, the modifications & DIY index, the fuel economy log, logically organized sub-forum topics, a monthly newsletter, annual top-20 lists, etc.

Facebook's main advantage is the way it's been designed to keep people in touch because it's better integrated into their lives (and phones) than a standalone forum.

But we think it's worth the small effort for owners/enthusiasts to use the forum to keep in touch with other owners, or else risk losing it. I know this might sound extreme, but we've seen it happen before.

I, like others who have already posted, do not use Facebook on grounds of privacy/tracking concerns. More relevantly to this discussion I also have witnessed the precipitous decline of a forum in the way Metro outlines above. I therefore fully support this decision.

Credit to Truezydale as well for sharing the link, but also for discussing the matter with Metro and Daox. It's easy to don the keyboard Ninja outfit when someone interdicts one's post and I'm pleased to see that this hasn't happened here.

I agree. I rather keep everything on the message boards. Splitting things up makes it more challenging. Keeping everything mirage here makes things simple.


Plus as mentioned keeping things on here ensures the survival of our home, mirage forum.com
