    DIY Fuel Economy Maintenance

Hi everyone. I just want to know what sort of easy, DIY stuff can be done on the Mirage to protect the exceptional fuel economy, especially at highers kms. My 2014 is now over 100,000kms, and I want to know what kind of stuff I should be doing myself to keep it running tip-top, with a particular focus on fuel economy.

I've had previous cars that needed periodic cleaning/replacing of such items as: EGR, MAP sensor, O2 Sensor, AIC, etc.

I'm wondering about other items such as fuel filters, cleaning throttle body, spark plugs, etc.

    Thanks in advance.

    I agree with cyclopathic.

Has your fuel consumption changed much over the 100,000 kms?

Keep the engine oil clean. Use only the correct oil.

Most new cars don't require a whole lot of the 'classic' type of maintenance. You know, points, caps, rotors, plug wires, etc.

At that mileage, I'd consider changing the coolant.

Thanks for the quick replies, everyone.

I'm going to look at doing a coolant flush/change this summer.

I do my own oil changes with Mobil1 oil and filters- what does everyone use?

My mileage hasn't changed much at all over the lifetime, certainly not gotten worse.

I gave my MAF a quick spray with sensor clean this morning- it looked pretty tidy anyway.

Does anyone know anything about the fuel filter? Is it located with the fuel pump under the back seat? Does it need changing regularly?

Well, I found the PCV valve and cleaned it. If anyone is planning to do this, I recommend you remove the snorkel first. Then pull the tube off of the PCV, and finally track down a 7/8" deep socket (good luck, I had to use an adjustable crescent wrench). After threading it out, I soaked mine in a little carb cleaner to get that rattle back, then threaded it back in. Not sure if it makes a huge difference, but can't hurt. I had a Neon that pretty much needed it done every 15-20k kms.
