No, when you are driving through it, it parts around your car, but I guess yes it could seem that high. I also use the middle of the road, drive on the median if I need to, and follow in the wake of the cars in front of me Track off and low gear keep the RPM's high!

Here are pics from inside my Mirage from a few weeks ago!

I wish I didn't have red lights, stop signs, and dips every intersection that I have to slow down for, but must accelerate to every block. I fill up closer to 6.5-7 gallons refill, but man I get bad mileage when I am stuck on local jobs all day. The Toyota Corolla I rented for 7 weeks before I bought this Mirage got way better local MPG's. It also was able to run at 1200RPM's whether going 30 or 70MPH! Funny part is it didn't have much better acceleration lol.

I live pretty much in the heart of Milwaukee, just off lake Michigan. The roads here are terrible too, with stops constantly as well. My biggest advantage (aside from no flooding) is I run the same route to work and back, so I've got my route down too 2 stop signs and about 7 lights over a 22 mile trip. It's definitely a lot longer mileage wise, as I start my trip heading the wrong direction, lol, but it's definitely faster time wise (by far) and I obviously save fuel.

In the absolute worst driving conditions with 5 people and the AC blasting I still get right at 40mpg a tank which is 300+ miles per tank. I averaged 42-43 per tank when I drove to Florida with 4 people and stuff AC blasting 70mph+ on the highway. The only way I get less than 40 is if I'm driving 1.5 miles to the gym and back.

On my 23 mile commute to work with traffic I get 50+...usually 52 or 53. On my drive home with no traffic I've gotten as high as 64 for the trip. I have an ultragauge and that helps although it usually ends up wrong on really long highway jaunts despite being dead on when I don't do highway driving. My commute to work is 2 lane highway with low speed limits 50-55. I'm just north of Atlanta and work in Alpharetta so the traffic can be pretty heavy. The only trick I do is coasting in neutral down hills. While leaving it in gear does engage DFCO, most of the time that slows me down too much. Save DFCO for slowing down for lights or cars that pull out in front of you instead of using your brakes. I take turns pretty hard I guess....previous daily driver was a miata lol The 1.6 miata always got about 30-32 mpg no matter what.

Just an FYI it is a pain in the ass to take off on a steep driveway with passengers. My driveway is quite steep. If it were gravel I'd be in trouble. I know guys want a taller final drive....I don't think it would be wise if you have a steep driveway or encounter steep traffic stops like I do. The car needs a 6th gear overdrive instead of a taller final drive ratio.

I second that. 5th gear is already great for driving around town. 6th gear overdrive is needed for highway driving. My highway mileage is way worse than city. I try avoid highways as a result.
