gated or zig zag shifter (CVT)

Even after two years I find it difficult to use this shifter in the dark. I try to follow the pattern, push to right, up, another right, etc. Is it ok to just push it and let it find it's way? Do they have a guide plate or something? A light would have helped, in the 'zig-zag' area.
Guess I'm used to the old style 't-handle' with pushbutton.

I definitely don't ever think about how I shift my CVT into the correct position. It can only go one or two directions depending on which position you're in, and you can't really be too rough unless you slam it in. Either way, it's manufactured to handle what you're throwing at it. Mitsubishi does sell an led interior kit to light the console...see below. My mirage has both that and the floor kit. The floor kit shuts off when the dome goes off, and the console led stays on. It's a nice glow.

I have no issues with mine, just push it in the general direction up or down and it finds its own way there. Usually sticks into D from park, never goes further, unless I pull delibrately.

If your cvt feeling clunky shifting anymore than described I'd get it checked.

Thanks, that's what I was wondering. Much appreciated.
