If you push on the seat and hold, the x2 will shut off and if you continue to hold the seatbelt light will illuminate to indicate passenger to buckle up. Only the sensor for weight in the seat still determine if the passenger airbag should be used or not, and has nothing to do with buckling the seat belt. My niece rides with me sometimes, and the airbag light will stay on since she is too light. So, in essence, there's two sensors not one. If placing a car seat in the seat, not recommended anyway, leaves the light on, then it's too light to trip the sensor, of it goes out, it's heavy enough. They did this because too many children would die from rear facing car seats, and the weight sensor took place of the manual on and off button. You won't find those too often anymore if at all.
Yah, my seat belt light will never go off unless the passenger seat belt is latched, it will flash and continue to flash unless it's latched even if no one is in the seat. Makes sense about the weight sensor though and the x2 light.
