    Second delivery car options

I'm looking for a cheap second hand delivery car.

I thought about trying to save up for another high miles mirage but I rather get something different

My mirage is excellent, when I'm delivering 300lbs and less it's perfect. When I get heavy loads and there's 30 bags that need to be delivered I can't fit them all in the mirage and that's money lost.

I've been thinking about potential cars

Must be 5 speed, cruise control, parts are cheap, parts car plentiful, 100hp or more (to pull 1,000 lbs up a mountain), r134 AC preferred, obd2 preferred, dirt cheap, high mpg, station wagon

    I narrowed it down to

    Toyota Corolla wagon
    Honda Accord wagon
    Camry wagon
    Escort wagon

I decided the escort would be the best. The 1997-2001 escort has the highest epa rated highway mpg of 38. It's also cheap, plentiful.

I'm thinking if I can aero kit a escort wagon to get 45mpg highway, I can load it up with miles and have my mirage for a back up car and uber car.

Escort wagon would probably be your best bet. Economical, cheap to buy, will take a ton of abuse.

Ha! I bought my Mirage because I thought my old Ford Focus wagon was too thirsty. While it was reliable, it was a much heavier vehicle by comparison, and I didn't care for the automatic transmission. That, and a co-worker cautioned that the timing belt would need to be replaced or risk ruining the engine. No Thanks...

I'm happy with my Mirage and I'm glad I got one, especially with those big discounts. I can go twice as far on a gallon of gas compared to that wagon.

    So far, so good.

If you are going with a Ford product, I highly, uhm...did I say HIGHLY, recommend you avoid anything with the 2.0L Vin P sohc engine. This is Ford's engine from hell. It is known to drop valve seats, throw rods through the sides of blocks, etc, etc. Hard to find good, used replacement engines when one goes south.

Ah yes, Ford's infamous "Split Port" motor. I'd avoid it as well, but if you do get one it's best to just consider the car disposable. When it blows, it goes...

There's a guy up here with his split port that has 350k miles on the original engine. He said timing belt and water pump every 100k oci at 10k

I love my mirage but it doesn't have the power to pull 1,000lbs on a daily basis. I'm wot and down shifting, holding up traffic. I feel like the way I'm over loaded and driving through mountains the engine won't last long doing so. Plus the interior is getting abused.

The delivery job is not an uber job?

The SPI engine is okay if you keep the EGR working properly and you prevent it from overheating.

You are in Minersville PA? I was down in Tremont in June at Rausch Creek park. Maybe next month!

Nice yes I am moving from that area closer to state college.

The spi escort is awesome but finding a cruise control wagon 5 speed... Good luck

The ford also has a problem with valve seats dropping and grenadine the engine

I might go with a Honda Accord wagon. I can easily get 5 speed and cruise control.

I really love my mirage but it can't handle 1,000 lbs and climb 9% grades. I'm really abusing the mirage really bad with this courier work. It just can't handle the weight plus I need more space and power.

1,000 lbs = ½ ton. That is pickup truck territory, sir. I wonder if you would have the same problems with a wagon. What about a cargo van?

Anyway, good luck with your search. I'm sure you'll find just the right solution.
