    DIY: Homelink Mirror

One thing I have missed from my Elantra was the rear-view mirror with both compass and Homelink (and to a certain extent, the anti-glare abilities ). I like not having to have a garage door opener on my visors or the keychain fob that my current apt. building provides. So I decided to install a mirror. I located a mirror and harness from a 2009 Mitsubishi Galant (hoping that the mirror mounts would be compatible with my Mirage) for $45.

    1. Remove the current mirror. All you have to do is pull the base towards the top of the windshield and the mirror slides off.

    2. Install the mirror onto the mount. Slide the new mirror onto the mount and tighten the set-screw (Torx-15).

    3. Wire in the new mirror. I'll show you where I attached the 3 wires from the mirror harness.

I attached the +constant and ground to the dome light, and reinstall dome light.

The +switched was a little different. I ran the wire along the headliner to the A-pillar and attached it behind there.

Remove the A-pillar moulding by prying at the top towards the center of the dash, and it'll pop off.

The brown wire on the harness is +switched and I attached the +switch from the mirror to it.

    The wire all tied up.

Overall, a very quick and easy install.

    All finished.

    Awesome!!!

Have you programmed the garage door button yet?

I have been looking for a place to hide a remote control button for my garage door. And I like the compass as well. Guess this will be my next purchase!

Yes. I programmed it to the gate to the underground parking at my apartment building and my buddies garage where I have all my tools and various oddities. 😃 It's working just fine.

be careful tugging on mirror! luckily your way worked, but its just not the right way lol ...not trying too be a d-bag...

the mirror mount cover twists off, then there's little wire clips you press too take it off the tab. (same ones you hear "click" when you put it back on its base) -- i tried to tint the roofline inside...but failed terribly

great job and a definite worthy mod (based off just compass alone!)

what is homelink? the garage door opener?

    Here come the follow-up questions...

I assume the 3 buttons on the left are homelink (garage door opener) buttons. What are the 2 (on/off?) buttons on the right for?

I see these mirrors on eBay...but none comes with a harness connector. Does this 10-pin connector below look correct?

Yep. Can control most things normally run by remote. Entrance gate, garage door, interior lights etc.

The buttons either turn on/off the anti-glare or compass not sure which one does which on that mirror. That harness should also work just fine!

Get this mirror...same as mine. $20. 12 hrs left
Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/262584027410

I gotta do this! My BMW has Homelink (which I also added), and I love it. I always wished it was an option for the Mirage (like it is on the Versa).

I think these Gentex mirrors are pretty generic. It's the same mirror offered by different manufacturers. Soon as I am off warranty, this is a must. Thanks for putting this up!

I'm pretty sure Gentex is the manufacturer.
