I think the reasoning behind motoman's recommendation is to create the tightest cylinder seal, which would result in more power (if that's what you're interested in). However, "more power" equals "more mpg and fuel savings", in this equation
Don't you mean LESS mpg and fuel saving?

I think more power tends to equal better fuel efficiency, in that it means that for every unit of gas used a greater proportion of the available energy is going to moving the piston - less wasted energy as no fuel can sneak by the piston rings. I could be way off on this, though.

Just curious . . . though I agree Cookiemonster is a fine moniker . . . you wouldn't happen to be trying to win a certain grand prize now would you? If so, we should maybe discuss that with multiple replies each!

Exactly ... if the engine is tighter, one drop of gas will produce more torque ... which also means, less gas would be needed to maintain the same torque as a "looser" engine, which equals higher mpg.

There is indeed - with a fabulous prize (check out the anniversary thread), but I didn't mean you, rather "grsupercity". All in good fun.

Speaking of which, does anyone know the trim level of the grand prizes? I suppose the wheels would be the best way to tell.

Break in at different speeds . Such as some city then state , county , town roads < 55 along with some interstate (65) . Then repeat until desired break in mileage is reached .

pardon me if i am incorrect but don't most car manufacturers run the engine in their own "DYNO" where they test for tolerances and flush out the initial oil before shipping the vehicle? i believe that makes the break in process relatively less meaningful than what it used to be.
