Friend wrecked his 2015 Mirage Hatch

A close friend wrecked his 2015 Mirage Hatch. It's a 2016 model labeled as a 2015 cause *USA* but basically he's only had it a few months. It was a head on collision with the other guy at fault. He's alright but the car is in rough shape. It is nice to see that spite the car being totaled none of the damage made it past the front of the motor.

Buuuuuummmer. Looks like the car held up like it was supposed to. A head-on is about as bad as they get. Glad to hear your buddy is okay.

Glad the driver was okay. Too bad it was totaled. It doesn't take much to total out these cars, and it doesn't bode well for their longevity.

In all seriousness though I'm very glad it held up. I'm kind of scared to get into an accident with new cars. I'm pretty short and I've seen what air bags do to people my size. I do feel safer in the mirage with the way the seat is compared to the steering wheel and pedals. It's the first car in a long time that I'm not right on top of the steering wheel.

Super glad your friend is ok. Do you think they will purchase another mirage?

Did the side airbag go off? If it did, how it react with the seat cover?

Glad your friend is OK. And thanks for the pictures. It's good to see that occupants seem to hold up OK in these types of collisions.

I'm confused by the airbag deployment on the passenger side. I assumed there was an airbag that deploys out of the top of the dash on the passenger side...but the dash is completely intact in the picture. However, I see the glovebox door hanging open and what looks like an airbag? What's going on there?

Side airbag probably did not go off because it was not a side impact. Sensors for that are at the bottom of the B-pillars.

The passenger airbag instead of deploying,it fell into the glove box. Kidding! That is the glove box items protection airbag.Kidding again!

Seriously, the passenger airbag did not deploy because (hopefully) there was nobody in the passenger seat.

I have not seen a vehicle in the last I don't know ten years that did not have some kind of passenger presence or occupant sensing
    system.

The white fluffy thing hanging down must be some kind of insulator that got knocked out of there during impact.

OK...I didn't even think about the fact that there probably wasn't anyone in that seat.

That's what threw me off. At first glance it looks like some sort of magic glovebox airbag...

I keep doggy poop bags in my glovebox.

There must be some kind of award for thread hijack.
