brand new 2014 Mirages in Ottawa (in 2016), $5000 discount (top trim)

Saw these at Bank Street Mitsubishi in Ottawa on Friday:

I was in Ottawa returning the 2017 Mirage G4 sedan I've been playing with, and the friendly sales rep I talked with pointed out they had a special buy of five NEW 2014 Mirages.

    How is that possible??

They're the top spec cars with A/C, fogs, power group, cruise control, heated seats, etc. All are $5k off the original MSRP. So just $10k plus tax. Impressive deal!

    Ad says:

MITSUBISHI CANADA SPECIAL BUY 2014 MIRAGES .

    COMES WITH P/WINDOWS . P/ LOCKS ./ KEULESS ENTRY/ AIR/ HEATED 2 TONE SEATS / ALLOYS.

THESE ARE NEW CARS ARE BEING SOLD AS USED CARS . 5 TO CHOOSE FROM. MILEAGE ANYWHERE BETWEEN 60- 200 KMS.

A few have sold, and I think most of them had manual trans.

I'm posting his contact info because he was very helpful when I went in... plus he let me take a 2017 Mirage hatchback for a spin while I was waiting for my ride.

    Tempted...

I'm going to say yes, but qualify that by adding there are different levels of temptation!

Realistically, there's probably no Mirage in my near future.

It says they are being sold as "used cars." Does that mean no 10 year/100K powertrain warranty?

To be honest...$5K off isn't good enough. That is now a 3-model-year-old car.

When the big rebates were going earlier this year, many of us got close to $5,000 off on new 2015's. If the stock of 2017's is building up, I'd take my chances and wait for a discounted 2017 model early next year.

If someone does buy one of these, be sure to get a pre-purchase alignment check thrown in.

I agree wholeheartedly. You can do much better elsewhere. Now if they were marked to $6k or less then I'd say grab one but otherwise meh

Just checked their site, and it says it's got the full warranty.

Does it really matter? I'd say no, unless you're planning to sell it or trade it in a few years. In which case you'd probably take a hit. The used 2014's are selling for roughly $7-8k retail now.

Top trim, or base? In Canada, the big factory discounts in March were only offered on the base Mirages. We never saw anything close to this deal on the top trim cars.

Which may explain why there are still some "new old" ones kicking around.

Remember, these prices are Canadian $. Equivalent to about $7500 US.

Ohhh...I didn't realize the incentives were different in Canada. The discounts in the US could be used on any trim level. My 2015 ES had a sticker price of $15,100 and I paid $10,300.

Yeah, I don't understand some of Mitsu Canada's pricing tactics. They're not nearly as aggressive as south of the border.

Case in point: Chevy Spark & Nissan Micra have base MSRP's below $10k. Base Mirage MSRP is over $12.5k, and then they tack on a (typical) $2500 factory rebate, which gets it in the same ballpark as the others.

The problem with that is half the time when a reporter writes about Canada's most affordable cars, they only mention the Chevy and Nissan, because they're going strictly by MSRP.

This is a killer deal actually. I can't drive stick, but this is about 500 more than I paid for my CVT which had 28000 km. I'm guessing they'll add some processing and financing fees that'd bring it up to about 1000 more but still a steal for a new car. If you Uber 2 days a month with this bad boy, it's paid
