Bought a "cheap used Mirage" -- fixing up a damaged 2014 ES

Well... I'm a proud owner of one now. 2014 ES with 37k & CVT. Member alex16 posted it the other day, after seeing it on Craigslist. Guy brought it down to me yesterday from around Gettysburg PA for $50, to cover his fuel. He bought several cars at the salvage auction and decided to fix some of the others, and cut this one loose. $2950 for the car, $450 for the same color door, $100 for the fender, $50 for the rocker trim, $65 for a mirror. Hour and 15 minutes to pull off the other door, hang & and adjust the new one, & hang the fender. I'm thinking about $500 for paint and body work to repair the rear door and wheel area. Has two brand new tires on the rear (Utt Oh) and will need two on the front soon. It does drive straight, steering wheel stays centered, so hopefully no rear axle issues. Might try and run 185 60 14's on it later. Runs great, trans pulls fine, brakes stop. What else could you ask for? Heading to my paint guy after my mirror gets shipped in.

Thats a ridiculously good deal! Congrats.

You should start a new thread for your car and/or a garage entry.

Congrats! I think you get the award for spending the least amount of money on a Mirage, at least so far.

At 37k miles, I might not be too worried about having brand new rear tires. Worth a 4 wheel alignment check, though, especially if anything on the front got tweaked.

So @$4,000 for a three-year-old car with 37k? Can't argue with that! Congrats! Be sure to post up some pics of her when she is back up to snuff!

    Now, you gotta name her!

Question: is the title branded as salvage?

I know you said it came from a salvage auction, but I've seen a couple of cosmetic-only damage cars at similar auctions that were not.

Yeah, it's branded. I used to go to the auctions when I had a dealer license and couldn't believe the late model cars that hardly had any damage, but were sold with salvage branded titles. Almost anything 5 years or newer is branded for some crazy reason. Saw lots of older cars with really bad damage, that were sold with "clear/clean" titles. Go figure.
