43mpg on the button. 2nd tank.

Okay so I just filled up tonight.
Car has 610mi on it and I just went 310mi on 7.2 gallons.

My driving is nearly 100% suburban city stop and go. When I go on the "freeway" it's for 5mi tops. Mostly I just stay on the side streets though.

I'm pretty happy with that. Tires were at 36psi. And most of that tank the temps were still cold, 30s mostly.

My scan gauge guessed 6.8gal so I had to adjust it to 7.2. Hopefully it keeps getting more accurate as I go.

I'm a rural driver - not much traffic to compete with and speeds are fairly constant, but it's very hilly where I live. My mpg can range from mid/upper 30's during the winter to upper 50's in the summer (with the factory wheels) driving back and forth to work. On the highway without any bad weather or heavy wind I average 43-45 mpg during longer trips.

Plenty of traffic here but I know my mileage will go up from here.

I'm jealous, I might have to break down and buy one. I averaged almost 13mpg this weekend in my truck all highway.

That was my problem. A couple years ago I was driving a 95 Cherokee which averaged 13-15 mpg back and forth to work. Gas costs were breaking the bank. I gave up and bought a Mirage. Now gas is about $10 per week. Much much better.

I notice for sure the Scan gauge is not reading overly optimistic now that I corrected it from 6.8 to the actual 7.2 gallons used. I have not seen it get to the 60mpg range on my commute lately but it is sometimes right on with the cars gauge. I've hit mid 50s on that.

These cars are so cheap that the fuel savings often comes close to making the monthly payment. To me, it made more sense to give my money to Wells Fargo as a payment on a car I will soon own instead of giving it to Chevron or Texaco to constantly fill the tank on a gas hog.
