AutoEvolution has posted an article showing the top 5 (actually 6) non-hybrid gas sippers in the States, going by the EPA's "combined" rating. Mirage hatch & sedan take the top 2 spots.

I was a bit surprised by the next 4 entries though...

    1. 2017 Mitsubishi Mirage (hatchback CVT) - 39 MPG
    2. 2017 Mitsubishi Mirage G4 (sedan CVT) - 37 MPG
    3. 2017 Jaguar XE Diesel - 36 MPG
    4. 2017 Honda Civic 4Dr 1.5 Aut CVT - 36 MPG
    5. 2017 Mazda 2 & Toyota Yaris iA- 35
      MPG
    6. 2017 Hyundai Elantra 1.4 Turbo Auto 7 - 35 MPG

Notice anything missing from the list? So did I. They restricted their search to 2017 model year EPA info, and some current efficient non-hybrids were left out of the running.

so if you were to correct this list, how would it actually look?

You'd just have to do a search for current 2016 models that haven't had EPA ratings published for 2017 .

EG: 2016 Honda Fit CVT has a 36 mpg US combined rating - that beats the Elantra on the 2017 list.

The Fiesta got revised down to 35 combined. Not a big change, but it's the same reason the 2017 Mirage got revised down a bit from the 2015.

    Forbidden fruit in the U.S.!

Suzuki actually departed Canada & the U.S. a couple of years ago.

You guys down under have a lot more choice in the small car segment.
