    Mirage factory radio question

    Hi everyone.
It's been a while since I've posted. I had been having trouble signing in, and couldn't find my password so I just gave up posting for awhile. My new password is now written down for future use.

I don't know if this has been discussed before, but I was wondering if anyone else finds the delay in turning off the radio irritating.
This is one of the few complaints about the car. I realize it's sort of a minor thing, yet for me it really is a driving distraction while I'm driving to have to keep my finger of the push-button switch until it responds. I suppose I could just keep the radio on all the time and keep turning the volume down when I don't want to hear it. A guy at my Mitsu dealer service dept. told me that it was designed that way to keep you from inadvertently turning it off when your finger brushes by it, but I find that hard to believe, and a creative excuse. I don't know if he just made that up on the spot.
Again, I realize if this is one of my few complaints about the car I'm doing OK, but was just wondering what others think about that special radio "feature". Maybe it's time for a better aftermarket unit/radio?
    P.S.
I'll try to post my fuel economy from now on. For the unofficial record, so far, in warm weather I average about 45 mpg. with the CVT trans. No complaints there!

My buddy had the exact same complaint with his Mirage, until I explained to him that short pushes of the power button accomplish a different function than the long push...depending on what mode you are in.

For example, if you are in USB mode and want to search for a song, you will use a short push of the power button to select individual folders, tracks, etc. A CD with compressed MP3 files would be navigated the same way, as would any numbers programmed into your Bluetooth phonebook.

Were the power button used for the power only, I am sure it would require only a single short push.

I agree with Daewoorolet the time period for power off could be cut in half.

I have only ever turned mine completely off a couple of times. When I need quiet I just turn it all the way down.

If you have steering wheel controls you can turn your radio on & off with them. Much faster.

I guess I never noticed this as I've apparently never turned my radio off.

when I bought the car, the inspection actually showed that as a defect, so when I took it to mitsubishi to get something fixed under warranty, I asked them to fix that too. The receptionist thought it was a problem as well, only the mechanic knew that it required a long press... It really does require an obscenely long press regardless of other function.

My Altima 2003 required a press as long. It doesn't bother my anyways, as I rarely turn it off, just turn it all the way down when needed.

How long does it take to turn off when you press and hold the button? Mine only takes about 2 seconds...maybe not even that long.

And that's too long. You see, I'm Very Busy and can't be bothered to hold a button down for too long lol.
