    thanks all for the suggestion. i bought a car myself first time. and this forum is great. saved me alot of money and paying to mechanics just for nothing.

    To the OP. that belt is junk. It's coming apart. As far as setting belt tension goes, a tension gauge is the way to go. Setting it by tone might be Mitsu's way, but i've seen way too many tone deaf techs to support that method.

    I like tensioner gauges but I'm old school, I like my belts loose. I loosened the belt to where it was squealing with ac and headlights/rear defrost on. Then I slowly tightened it over and over till it wouldn't squeal (very small increments)


    I currently have 93,000 miles on my belt with no issues. Might change it at 100k

    I'm with you on this. I like to set my belt tension at the same level. Just tight enough to not squeal under full load.

    That's the same way I change oil. Rather than bring it up to the proper level, I add just enough so the rod bearing knock stops. Ok maybe not...
