    DIY MUDFLAPS

Ok, btw you may not follow everything i have listed since this is the only way i had in mind when i made my own flaps. so if you have better ideas might as well share it to others. lets all get started.

    Things needed:
    1. Flexible chopping board, a cardboard or used pizza box
    2. some nuts and bolts
    3. a drill or rotary tool
    4. screw driver, pliers, whatever you may have in your toolbox
    5. is use your imagination haha

btw, i used this to picture so to have an idea where i can put the screws with the flaps and i think this only applies for a mirage hatchbacks. not sure with the G4s

First is remove the tabs from the front and the rear wheel wells to prep.

Move your steering wheel left or right to get an easy acces on the inner tab.

At the rear there are 5 tabs that need to be removed.

1 Tab is located under the rear bumper

For the front we dont have to remove the plastic only the tabs then on the rear part we need to remove it. see the 2nd picture fyr.

We only need one pattern and youll just have to use it for the front and rear. since i only have 2 hands place your pattern at your rear and put something bet the tire and the pattern to make it hold its place so that you can have time looking at the back for the height and the sides until you get what you wanted for your flaps.

To get the exact position on where to put the tabs just use a pen and poke the carton through hehe. just move the carton up down left and right until you get the right height and pisition from your flaps before poking it. Then draw a lining at the back to get the exact position and alignment.

Now that you had it aligned and had a hole to fit at the rear, just use the same pattern and use it to get the exact holes from the front. What you just have to do is put the pattern at the front and put the tab on the bottom hole from your pattern and find the top hole again ang poke. Again before poking make sure you checked if its aligned or leveled.

Now it will look like this. Your pattern will have 3 holes top, mid and bottom. The TOP and BOTTOM is used for the REAR and the MID and BOTTOM is for the front

sorry if i couldn't put any measurements i made the cut just by looking at my reference pic.

Now i had a dilemma on how it would hold the inner part of the flaps since wind and water will hit your flaps and needs to be sturdy enough and hold its place.... this is where your ingenuity comes in hahaha. if you had any other suggestions feel free to add.

Here's a garbage aluminum i found at our garage and boom. since this doesnt rust this will do.

Just use your hammer and flattened it out and cut it at about 12inces or less to make this, then make a U shape. This will be used at the front flaps

To get the holes. First, put the "U shape aluminum" at the front inner hole. The aluminum should be under the plastic as seen at the pic on my first post, then use a marker to mark the hole. Once done just use a drill to make the exact hole for the Tab. Then make another hole on the other side. Depends on how big the screw you'll be using.

Now once done, set the U shape aluminum and put the tab to secure, then put back your pattern and secure with a tab, then mark your hole for you flap and the U shape Aluminum to get the exact position. Its a bit hard but if you have a lift then its easier, or if your can measure it good for you! hehe

    It will look like this.

Done with front next is the rear. Since the rear doesn't have free holes to use for the flaps. I used a T Shaped steel. i dont know whats it called, i just saw it from home depot and used my mind how i can use it. I bent it, but measured from the rear before bending it.

    Attachment 9230
    Attachment 9232

I drilled from the bottom of the rear bumper and used a screw and washer to hold the T shaped steel. I used 2 Nuts to hold the screw into place.
    Attachment 9231

just do the same from the U shaped aluminum to get the exact location of the holes. Screw the T shaped first before putting on the pattern on top to get the holes fixed then poke it with a pen.

And it will look something like this!

NOTE: This is why the black plastic was removed from the rear.

Great write up, mitsumi. Looks like a worthwhile project.

What material did you use for the mudflaps - is this the flexible chopping board? Maybe you said it already - if so, I apologize. Where did you get it, at what cost, do you think it's too stiff, too flexible, will it be durable - any links?
