Try an Air Lift suspension to stiffen things up a bit. Read more about it in this post by Mitz.

And by the way, what is the offset of those rims?

I have no idea what the offset is. I don't even know who makes them. They came on my 98 Metro when I got it in 2012. I think because they are 6.5 wide instead of 6 inch wide is the issue.

So I mentioned the rear wheel scraping the inner fenders on one certain bump. Yesterday, the wife invited our friend to go to a discount store 40 miles away and before you know it, we added 200+ lbs of crap into the rear cargo plus a 120 LB rear passenger. The rear tires were scraping the inner fender the whole way home over every bump and the wife was pissed! I was also upset for wasting 4 hours of my time and $25.00 on valve stems to do the swap with the TPMS sensors just to have nice wheels. Fuel economy has also went from 46-48 MPG to 42 MPG since the wheel swap.

Today I spent some time figuring out what to do. I looked the the car and noticed the spacing between the tires on the front compared to the back in regards to the fenders. The rear end of this car has some sag to it (see pic above) and if I raise the rear end up, this will hopefully fix the issue. I ordered a set of 18-1901 spring spacers to install and hopefully this will give me enough rear end lift to keep these wheels on.

    Updates later.

Last year, not long after I bought my Speck, I tried some spring spacers from a local Advance Auto store. They weren't big enough to make any difference, much less stay in place, so I took them back.

Judging by the information on my receipt it is the same spacers you are considering. I made the pictures linked to my photo album for this - click on them to browse the rest in my album here on the forum.

I would be curious to know if your experience will be any different.

I just picked a pair of those up. Maybe I will try installing the under the coil springs. I will update this weekend.

Take lots of pictures. Hopefully you can get lots of before & after. I'd love to see how this turns out. This could be a very inexpensive way to lift the rear suspension of these little cars.

I'm curious to know how you plan on doing this 'under the coil springs' - and how you plan on keeping the coil spring from slipping out of position. When I had mine installed, I was able to pull them out without lifting my Speck - I just reached under and pulled them out without tools.

Myself, I'm still leaning toward the Air Lift suspension. I wonder what other sizes would fit.

Those spring boosters did not work. In order to raise the rear end I installed those stupid adjustable spring boosters like this.....

They are doing the job for now, but I am going to upgrade the rear spring from the new Beetle or Suzuki Swift. I also put on a generic 2" chrome exhaust tip. I will post pics later.

You will not regret the beetle rear springs. I am still running them with no issues. I have never had any scraping or bottoming out even with 4 200 lb adults or 600 lbs of computer equipment in back with 1 passenger. I don't think a rear sway bar is needed anymore.

Ditto here. They are a great change. I wouldn't go back to OEM.
