    Rust issues?

I just bought a new Mirage and want to keep it. I live in the rust belt and wondering if any Mirage owners noticed any kind of rust issues on their car. This weekend I plan on protecting the undercarriage on the car to help prevent any issues down the road.

The Mirage doesn't appear to have any obvious rust issues that I have noticed. But like a lot of new cars, not every suspension component, brake line, etc is well protected and will likely start rusting. There have been some discussions of DIY rust preventative products (see THIS thread).

I had a Krown application done to my car earlier in the year. I will post a complete write-up on it in the next day or so. Krown has been popular in Canada for years, and is just now starting to come into the US.

If you plan on installing a hitch it would be smart to put it on before you undercoat. You have too drill a big hole in the sub structure

If you get stone chips in your paint fix them asap!
The exposed metal rusts very quickly.
In just over 2-1/2 yrs @ 70,000km there was well established rust on egdes of pinch weld seams under car and exhaust looked 10 yrs old.
Good news is the fuel/brake/? lines and underbody behind both those black plastic shields under there were in pristine condition. There was none of the grime and debris I was expecting.
All in all I would start a rust proofing regimen very early in the life of your car to stay ahead of it.

    Will weld for beer.

    Which hitch does this?

I installed a Draw-tite 24916 hitch and there was no drilling involved. It was less than a 30 minute installation.
You insert 4 bolts through already existing frame rail holes, lift the hitch up, and install and tighten 4 nuts onto those bolts. Then, you install and tighten an u-bolt on the tow hook. Not a single bit of drilling required.

    The curt (Kurt?) Hitch.

You don't drill a hole its grinding an existing hole bigger. But same consequence that you need too undercoat it after

Then I wouldn't install that hitch lol. There is no grinding necessary.

Moral of this story: buy the Draw Tite hitch.

    I guess so!

I wouldn't shy away from this piece, it looks feels and performs like it's really well built. Somewhere there's a post showing going in thru the bumper or something similar and eliminating the issue as well

U.S models are manufactured differently from Asian models. I have enlarged one of the holes on each side, applied an anti-rust paint, let it dry then installed the hitch.
