Good review! I'm having similar experiences with the stock tires as well. Of course, winter tires would greatly benefit the car more.

Image below, this was taken when we got 6-7 inches of snow here in Minnesota. I think the car handle very well for what it is. It definitely takes some speed and force for it to really spin out. On top of that, the TC really does it job to make sure it does not spin out.

That's a nice looking photo. Looks like an advertisement.

Looks like a ghost car. Yeah, it does look like the mother ship hovering over it.

Yes, fantastic looking photo, and it's not even the much improved styling on the 2017.

I had the opportunity to drive mine on snow and ice (lots of ice) this weekend, and with snow tires, it does very well. I live near some steep hills and only one extremely steep and icy one stopped the car. It would have stopped any car that wasn't AWD with a good set of winter tires. I tested the traction control in many ways, including driving with the right hand side of the car on ice and the left hand side on clear pavement. Even with generous throttle in a low gear, it stayed strait and squirming was minimal. The only real clue something was going on was the flashing traction control light. So 2 thumbs up from me for winter driving and the Mirage. I've had plenty of less than kind things to say about some of the Mirage's traits, so the praise for its winter prowess is genuine.

    PS - Mine's a 2015 ES 5 Speed with Blizzak tires.

This is my commute home tonight...
This is a provincial highway at about 6:00PM.
Bit of a challenge at 80km/hr but my Mirage never felt out of control.

We get lake effect weather over this way (see my Avatar) - even with stupid amounts of snow and ice so far, KNOCK ON WOOD, I have only gotten stuck once and that was an ego problem hahah. I did make sure to put winter supplies in the car like a shovel, blankets, etc, but so far have had no need for them. This little rabbit seems to get along VERY well in the snow.

EDIT - I'm very weary of the plastic door handles with ice. I had quite a few instances of frozen doors and shattered nerves. Anyone snap a door handle yet?

I love this car so far with winter tires. I often just turn off stability control and do handbrake sliding, but the winter tires grabs a bit too much, so it stops quickly lol... I'd love to have an instant on off switch for the stability control on this little car. Other than that, the CVT do make some noise if i start to drive it too fast without giving it some time to warm up... i used to just let my other cars idle for 15-30 sec before driving off but need to give the Mirage more time, no block heater used here. You can easily drive this thing over 100-120km/h on highway because it is so light and the tires are so narrow, so it dig into the snow easily.
