Car & Driver: 2017 Mirage GT CVT review - "Mitsubishi has lost its mojo"

Over 100 comments below Car & Driver's review of the 2017 Mirage GT.

They acknowledge the improved styling, power increase, yet fail to mention the improved steering, suspension & brakes.

The ride comfort is praised, as is MPG, but the CVT and NVH is criticized.

And somehow they predict that 95% of Mirages will not be properly maintained by their owners. I have never read a line like that in a car review.

    Their harsh conclusion:

There is basically nothing to make a driver happy to be at the helm of a Mirage, nothing to love. [...]

Mitsubishi has lost its mojo. The latest Mirage is yet more proof.

Mitsubishi could tone down a lot of the professional criticism of the Mirage by doing one simple thing: pricing it competitively, correctly, and realistically.

Truth be told, the Mirage GT is a bad car for $18,000. There are better options for buyers at that price. But it isn't a bad car for $14,000-$15,000, which is the going rate for one once the ever-evolving rebates and discounts are factored in.

Mitsubishi proved that these cars can sell really well and gain some respect when they priced them very competitively during the spring of 2016. They just shouldn't be using rebates so much.

I'm kind of offended. My 17 has had a few issues out the gate, but I get the feeling it sat for a while. I've been in contact with my dealer and the issues Will be resolved when I get a minute to drop it off. My 15 is flawless. Mrs BostonJellyBean loves it. It gets her to work. She is getting over 30 mpg in the cold, and she can back it up without hitting everything.
I am happy with the revisions to the 17. I wanna do some updates to the 15. I'd kill if Mitsubishi had a software revision or whatever to remove that dead spot on the wheel
    In the 15.
I get between the 2 cars 75+ mpg combined. My gas bill is still less than $20 a week for both cars. My note for both cars is exactly 500 a month.
What more should I want from transportation?
My fuel bill was almost 400 a month on my crown Vic...
Granted I owned a clear title......
These reviewers suck. I honestly loved Hyundai / Kia but they priced themselves out. Screw GM, Honda quality went down the tubes, Ford's fiesta is WAY too expensive and not so reliable.. The focus is WAY too heavy for its class plus that dual clutch "auto " is trash.
My girl can't screw up my cvt.
I got Bluetooth in both, cruise in one.... Jeesh.

In a way, that's sort of what you suggested.

Don't be offended. "Mojo" isn't a word ide use to describe the mirage either. Doesn't change that I think it's neat! I think you have to either be an eco-nerd or a genuine car enthusiast to appreciate this car for what it is.

I'm Glad my cars start every day. People are so snobbish today.
I was in the back bay and beacon hill neighborhoods of Boston today.
Bmw Mercedes etc all parked on the streets all dinged up.
Why are you paying 50k to have a vehicle that just sits and gets trashed in cramped urban hoods? Keeping up with the Jones. It's a sick disorder Americans have. Oh and the big fancy houses in the suburbs look good out front.. Let me clue you in.. The back yards are almost always trashed and full of junk. Keeping up with the Jones. I'm not keeping up with anyone ... But myself

The comments are quite ruthless from people who never drove one.

And, most likely, never even seen one in person.

Or they could split the difference between the ES and the GT and send out the...apparently very rare...SE with a manual. That would go a long ways towards stifling this kind of criticism.

NO economy car makes sense in it's top-spec form.

Take an economy car with 78 hp...
    Price it at $17,000...
    Put a CVT in it...
    Call it a "GT"...
Send it to Car & Driver for a road test article...

Yeah...that's probably going to end well.
