First check engine light at 232000kms

I finally had a check engine light come on one of our Mirage's. Car is a 2015 cvt with 232000kms on it. Code is P0421 Warm Up Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold. It came yesterday afternoon, still runs and drives fine. I was able to clear the light but my scan tool says the code is permanent. Guess I'll have to fix before that goes away for good. I haven't had time to check the O2 sensors yet. I'll keep you posted what I find. Luckily if the cat is junk I have a spare with about 30k from our parts car that got hit by a garbage truck and I'll soon have 1 for sure, possible 2 parts cars on the way as well. Gotta love winter!

That is quite a bit of driving! Thanks for updating us on this. I look forward to hear what the solution is. Hopefully just a new rear O2 sensor.

I figured I should give an update. The check engine light came back on a few days after I cleared it. I didn't have much time to figure it out so I just changed the front cat with the rear O2 sensor with a used one I already had on the shelf with 30k on it. The light hasn't come back on since.

It has 238000kms /148000miles on it now!

Hi, the car has just over 250000 now. That car puts on around 10000k a month. I haven't had any problems with the cvt's on any of the mirage's we have.

My car’s check engine light is on with same code (P0421). Some other codes which I got today are (U0401), (B1062) & (B1042). Any information in this regard would be highly appreciated.

According to post #3 above Fummins says he replaced a catalytic converter and oxygen sensor to clear the fault.

Today I’ll clean Catalytic Converter and will let you guys know if it works as my car only has 53000 kms and changing Catalytic Converter makes no sense.

    Here>

DTC P0421: Warm Up Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold
    .
    TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION
The signal from the heated oxygen sensor (rear) differs from the linear air-fuel ratio sensor, because the catalytic converter purifies exhaust gas. When the catalytic converter has deteriorated, the signal from the linear air-fuel ratio sensor becomes similar to the heated oxygen sensor (rear).
The ECM compares the output of the linear air-fuel ratio sensor and heated oxygen sensor (rear) signals.
    .
    DESCRIPTIONS OF MONITOR METHODS
Linear air-fuel ratio sensor and heated oxygen sensor (rear) rich/lean switching frequencies are nearly equal.
    .
    MONITOR EXECUTION
