    rear shocks replaced with KYB 348083

    I replaced the stock rear shocks (Mitsu 4162A199) with KYB-Asia 348083.
    Reason for replacing was to get rid of the rear bobbing up and down over mild bumps. It has been like that unchanged from day one, and can make rear passengers sea-sick on bumpy country roads.

    The KYB-Asia 348083 give a slightly firmer ride, not much different than before, but the bobbing up and down has totally vanished. I can recommend them as a very good replacement for OEM shocks. Been wanting to replace them ages ago, but only now found a source willing to send these to Europe.
    KYB-Europe does not list, sell or even have any knowledge at all about these shocks.

    I bought them from startmycar.co.za and they were forwarded to Germany within three days of ordering.
    Price including freight was €97.-, roughly US$112.- for both.

    I’m trying to do the replacement now but can’t seem to remove the top bolt. I turn and turn but the nut isn’t moving. Any suggestions?

    So you're saying when you turn the nut...the threaded shaft just spins with it, right? You can grab the top of the shaft with a small wrench or vice grips (isn't the top of the shaft squared off or something?). Anyway...hold the top of the shaft and then start turning the bolt.

    Thanks foe that. I watched a vid after posting and found that other vehicles use a socket to hold the bolt and a pass through wrench.

    Another carmaker also has a specialized too.

    I’ll swing by the local mitsu shop and see if they have a specialized tool. Otherwise I’ll buy one of those open tools from harbor freight.

    According to the mitsu service manager and his right hand man, no special tool. Just use whatever to keep the bolt from moving and use whatever wrench to turn the nut loose.

    Instead of buying a wrench, I’m intrigued on the past though wrench and it’s just 15$ so that’s what I’ll go with.

    Will likely use a vice grip pliers to keep the bolt held in place.

    Use a 7mm(?) open spanner or be careful with a pair of vice-grip pliers to hold the very top of the stem, then you can turn the nut and get it off.
    When putting it together, best to use a new self-locking nut and not overtighten it, so the rubber is not unnecessarilly compressed.
