Kelly Blue Book's G4 Mirage Review

Another terrible review from KBB this time. It's basically a 8+ minute smackdown of the G4.

Seems as if the only ones who like the Mirage are those of us who own one.

The Mirage has one of the highest owner satisfaction scores but is almost universally hated by reviewers.

The reviewers of these cars keep comparing it to higher priced cars that are not in the same class as the Mirage.

I just built a G4 SE at Mitsubishi's website and it came out to a sticker price of close to $18,000!?! That's the problem. This car is going to get a beat-down by any reviewer at that price.

    By the way...I just noticed there's a $2,000 rebate on G4's.

My 2017 G4 stickered at $18000 but I paid nowhere near that. Anyone who would pay $18k should look at something a bit bigger.

Agreed, that $18k price tag is really high for what it is. It's still funny to see these reviewers knock on the Mirage on power. It's a 1.2L 3 cylinder engine...what are you expecting? I didn't expect neck-braking acceleration from it.

I paid $8900 out the door for my 2015 last year. Brand new and only had 50 miles on it. Also, I don't think the Mirage should be compared to the Civic or Corolla, those are 2 really expensive cars for what they are.

I have the iA and I am not satisfied for it. It sure looks expensive but it rattles, the shifter is odd in different gears and sadly the quality of workmanship is not there.

I never understood Mitsubishi's pricing structure on these cars. That is, until quite recently. But now I get it.

    You see, a loaded Mirage G4 is not an $18,000 car. It's a $16,000 car with a built-in $2,000 down payment.

Seriously, that is the way this works. Big rebates make it easy for people shopping the bottom of the market...people who may not have a lot of cash for a down payment...to get financing. Mitsubishi essentially provides the down payment for them. On paper, anyway.

So, the bank thinks they are only financing $16,000 on a car with an $18,000 window sticker. And that's what they want to see. But the downside of this arrangement is that it makes professional reviewers wail about how 'overpriced' the car is.
