Hello, & ive out grown my Mirage!! Help. (Modify seat rails?)

Hello, and as the title says I've out grown my Mirage. I still love it & don't want to have to sell. Does anyone know if you can modify the seat rails to go back a little more? I don't need much just a little more room

Sounds like it's time to get a bigger car then.

You could do a Foamectomy. Its pretty common with Miatas. Pull the seat cover off and cut the butt cushion down. You can also try cutting the back down as well. A wire saw does pretty good if you don't have access to a hot knife.

I wouldn't do this just because the airbags in the seat.

There's no doubt it can be modified to work. Take it to any shop that welds and they should be able to hook you up

I can't say I knew there are airbags in the seats. My last new car purchased was in 2003 and it doesn't have them.

I'm going to say this and it may sound silly, but are you angling the back down? My guess is that you are, but if the seat is completely back and angled down as much as you can while still being able to comfortably drive, I have a hard time seeing how even at 6' 6" the car would be undrivable. Annoying to get out of, yes, uncomfortable, no. Also it'd kill the back seat.

I don't need too much more room, just another 5 cm and it will be comfortable again. I've seen extenders for rails for a Prius and wondered if someone did the same for the Mirage?

Sorry but I've never heard of or seen anything like that.

Looking at the way the rails were designed, I think it's likely you could just buy a longer universal set of rails and poke some holes in them, bolt the mounts on and be done.

Have a look and judge for yourself
