Mirage to debut in US at 2013 New York auto show, on sale in September

The Mirage will make its US debut at the New York auto show which starts March 29th.

No surprise that the US is only getting the largest engine. Its what Mitsu has done in a bunch of countries so far. It will be interesting to see if the US will get the manual and CVT or just CVT trans. It makes sense to still offer the manual since it is a lower cost option and that will keep prices down. Plus, the fact that reviewers in the US seem to hate CVT transmissions makes the manual look better.

It was barely a footnote today at the Mitsubishi press conference at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show, but Mitsubishi North America President Yoichi Yokozawa announced that the recently redesigned Mitsubishi Mirage will debut at the 2013 New York Auto Show. He also confirmed that the B-segment car will go on sale in the United States in September 2013.

    ...

The same official confirmed that the small hatchback will launch with a gasoline engine, though it's unclear if the U.S. version would adopt the 76-horsepower, 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine used in Mirages sold in other markets, including Japan.

I was very pleased to learn today that the Canadian market will get the 5-speed. Bonus, bonus, bonus. Canadians buy a lot more small cars per capita than the U.S. does, and we likely buy a lot more manual transmissions too. (Best selling car here is the Honda Civic - has been for over a decade, vs. Camry in the US.).

Aside from the transmission question, the wild card remaining for the North American market is the name. The Canadian car was unveiled today in Montreal with no name! That suggests they still haven't settled the U.S. name. I'm guessing it's some issue around trademark - the same issue that caused the Euro version of the Mirage to end up with the "Space Star" name.
