    Mahle engine downsizing project

I remembered seeing this years ago. Gen II is what I think I saw in action. Interesting evolution of the prototype design and could be available in the not too distant future. A mirage with a broad torque curve would be awesome, especially if it was more efficient.

It would be great, but I'm inclined to think that an engine like this will cost as much as a Mirage.

Pretty much what Ford is doing throughout most of their fleet. Mitsubishi has used this technique on the Eclipse Cross, just for some ready examples.

Looks like there really is a replacement for displacement.

If Mitsubishi offered a turbo 3 cylinder in the Mirage, I'd be first in line for one.

Seeing as most European cars come with turbo 3cyl, I'd say this is the future until we switch to electric cars in the future. The fuel savings is there, the speed is also there and it's sufficient for every type of driving, yet I'm baffled if they can go more than 100 000 miles, due to the power per liter that they produce.

    An example,https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XNvRhWL1stQ
Renault's 900cc turbo petrol engine that pushes out 90hp. Seeing that Mitsubishi, Renault & Nissan are in an alliance, I don't see why they can't introduce those types of engines as well. A turbo 4 cylinder would be an awesome choice, or something like the GR Yaris, if Mitsubishi ever decides to get back to rallying

I think this type of motor tht should work alongside the batteries in the next gen Outlander PHEV more torque to get the big girl moving while increasing efficiency.

Twin charged 3 cylinders are definitely where the market is headed in order to meet MPG and emissions standards. There are a number of FI 3 cylinders on the market already as mentioned. Ferd Ecoboost, Toyota, and the Mini Cooper are some of them. I'm sure they'll end up in pickup trucks if the trend continues. Hell, GM's full size pickups already have a turbo 4 cylinder.

I think the added complexity and expense of these engines will give the electric car market a boost. TBH I'd rock a 150+hp electric Mirage. I find the lack of mechanical complexity of electric cars interesting. Electronics are a whole different issue though.
