Exclamation Temp/coolant light comes on when starting up, disapears after a minute or 2. Normal?

Hi, I just bought a new mirage yesterday, and day 2 I'm seeing a greem coolant light come on. It stays on then disapears.

I've seen a thread here about this happening in the 2014 model and it just means a warm up time but my manual says it means to add coolant.

I was wondering if I need to take it in to the dealer. It's after hours now so I can't call them now.

Btw, sorry if I broke any forum rules or put this in the wrong place, it's my first post.

Hello Woodsrlee, and welcome to the forum.

Like any other vehicle using an internal combustion engine, the Mirage operates best when warmed up. The coolant indicator on the dash displays green until the engine warms up, then goes out. Any malfunction or problem will be indicated with a red coolant warning indicator.

This should be in your manual, or you can confirm it with your dealer. I can find the entry in my 2015 owner's manual, but I think you might have a 2017. It helps to know how a car is configured when asking for help or assistance. You can post your details here in your forum garage. For an example, you can read about my Mirage here.

    Again welcome!

    It's on pages 5-71 and 5-73 in the 2017 Mirage owner's manual.

The light is not for 'low coolant', it is for 'low coolant temperature'.

Perfectly normal for it to be on when the engine is warming up, since these cars do not have a coolant temperature gauge.

Correct, all around, of course. A ScanGauge reading of the water temperature shows that the low coolant temp light goes off at around 137f, or 60c.

    AHH!
    I feel stupid now.
I saw that page and reat it completely different.
I read low coolant temperature indicator, as a temperature indicator that said low coolant.

Had I read the red one, I would have understood.

    Thanks Alex
