For safety's sake, there's a lot of wisdom in letting a professional have a look at fuel-related problems, especially fuel and electricity. The section of the service manual I posted describes removing the fuel pump module in order to manually operate the float. I'm not sure that's necessary because a reading can still be made without removal.
