Link doesn't work. But the Ford Powershift is terrible, and has been for years.
Blame the government for it's existence...their demands for more and more fuel efficiency led different manufacturers to conclude that a transmission combining two three-speed manuals with two clutches automatically shifted by a computer was a good idea.
Chrysler's wasn't any better.

Was there seriously a reason why they decided to go with a 'dry dual-clutch transmission'? Yes, it's more "eco" friendly but what were the engineers thinking? I'd assume most of those Fiestas/Focus' are either driven really hard or the transmission was just horribly built to not handle that kind of stress. Either way, I hope those 7,000 owners get those issues resolved.

Younger brother is on his 3rd DCT in his 2012? Focus, luckily he bought a extended warranty and had the last one installed just before 100,000 miles. It's left him on the side of the road multiple times.
Although the Mirage's CVT doesn't inspire any driving "fun", at least it's been reliable. It seems that almost all DCT's have ongoing long term issues, regardless of application. I don't really know enough about DCT's to conjecture why they seem to be so problematic.

This is exactly why I like my Mirage 5 speed. There is nothing but old school tried and true tech, single cone brass synchros, cable actuated shifts, no clutch fluid etc. And as far as the CVT it also seems like a good option as it was designed to handle much more torque (and heavier vehicles) and is thus significantly overbuilt for our application. The general consumer wants power and a quiet ride which has forced auto makers into more and more complex means to achieve EPA mandated mpg goals.......not Mitsubishi. They simply went ultra light with a tiny engine. It's noisy and slow but cheap as hell and should last forever and if something breaks you could probably fix it yourself.
