Good question, Eggman. I was going to ask the same thing. I wonder if this is a "too much body roll" concern that would bebetter addressed with a rear stabilizer bar.

This thread has a link too a site that sells KYB's for about $60/ea
But i cannot recommend that site on good faith, or the shocks. I've not dealt with either.
E30 bmw, 1st gen Toyota Echo, (((which leads me to believe suzuki sx4 and the original Scion XB could be made to work))) rear shocks both fit if you get a little happy with a grinder and bushings. Honestly though i suggest ponying up the cash for factories unless you have a specific goal in mind. There is no non-mirage bolt-in shock im aware of.
Good luck.
Hello Forum Members,
Thank you all for your responses.
I found out that the shocks are leaking after I accidentally drove off of a standard parking lot curb at 2 MPH. The car did not bottom out.
The ride is rough now, and I'm afraid that if I do not get new shocks soon, the car will rattle itself apart.
Again thank you for the link and info. - I will check that out.
However, if anyone has any more information on how else to replace these shocks cheap, please post.
Thank you ALL !!!

I see this thread hasn't been updated in a while. Are there still NO aftermarket alternatives? I certainly cannot find any. I've looked at Monroe, Gabriel, KYB, Tokico, and have come up empty. I only have 5,000 miles on my Mirage but recently put Eibach springs on. I'd love to know my options (which currently appear to be OEM only at $145, which I assume is per shock).
Mitsubishi has sold over 100,000 of these; it's shocking (sorry for the pun) that no manufacturer has a replacement. I mean, not even for a Space Star?
If OE shocks are $145 x4... seems like a no-brainer to buy a $650 coilover kit that includes shocks.

Oh, trust me: if I had to replace all four corners, it'd be a no-brainer. I was just conversing with a fellow Mirage owner in the Subcompact Culture group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/subcompactculture/) about being on Eibachs. So far, I like them a lot, but he said his rear shocks only lasted a few thousand miles after being lowered (even less than an inch). I started looking up replacement parts, and could not find any!

Rear shocks are actually pretty generic. There's probably something out there that would work off-the-shelf. Would take a little research.
