What is the purpose of (formed panel attached under bonnet/hood)

Hi in my engine bay on the roof of the bonnet there is this thin yellow ugly cartboard thing attached with plastic pins.
I want to remove it tried prying the plastic pins but no success.. Whats underneath that board and how do i remove it safely

I just genlty tried lifting it and a chunk came off so brittle.

    Thanx

    Picture?

Does the thing cover a large area of the underside of the bonnet/hood?

If so, it's probably an insulation panel for sound/heat.

If you find the part number for the pins that hold it on please post it up

I cannot tell a difference with it on or with it off noise wise I'm guessing it eliminates sound and protects the paint from heat. Mines been off for a long time no paint issues.

My pins broke when i was taking Mine off to clean. (salt spray)
Bonus points to whoever spots the defective windshield washer nozzel on my car lol

I remember a post a while ago saying that is fire suppression blanket?
Dunno for sure but it's not something I'd put there if it had no purpose.
Since you've already wrecked it, it would be an interesting experiment to hold a torch to it to see what happens.
    Will weld for beer.

Or you could use a small flame such as a from a match, or a cigaratte lighter.
