Spent 1 week and 1,000 miles in a 2016 Versa

So we were in So Cal visiting family and our rental was a 16 Versa sedan SV. Cvt.

We put 970mi on the car.

My take: the car drove fine. Pretty smooth but the cvt was terrible. It whines at certain times and under semi hard acceleration it can't catch up properly and is not fluid in its acceleration and or sound/feel.

I would not want the cvt versa.

It did pretty good in the mileage dept. I avg 44mpg from LA to Fresno and back. And 41-42.5 in so cal with horrendous traffic 75% of the time. And I used the A.C. about 80% of the trip.

The back seat was a real plus. It is very large with lots of leg room. No issues there.

The seats were more bolstered and pretty comfy overall.

With a manual this would be a much better car.

I'm just curious what kind of RPMs you were seeing at freeway speeds with that CVT?

I didn't pay close attention but it was lower than my 5spd mirage. Like 2300-2400 I think around 70. Too busy driving to save my life on those freeways. Ppl drive like nuts out there. I used to live there about 8 years ago and it's worse now even.

I was born and raised in Long Beach, CA. Moved to Ohio in 2000. Flew back a couple times until 2005 when my parents left for NC. Didn't go back until 2015, and it was amazing how much more crowded and crazier it has gotten in a decade. 41+mpg in that traffic is awesome. I think if I lived there again (NEVER!), I'd probably go back to an automatic, for all the start, stop, start, stop.

One thing I was keeping my eye out for was mirages. I only seen THREE!!!! A week in the car capital of the USA and only 3. All where the older 14-15 hatches.

My other vehicle I looked for is Tundra as I have one and I seen those everywhere I looked! Mostly with huge lifts and tires(really needed in the malls of so cal) and even more Tacomas.

In-N-Out is downright magical. 2nd St and PCH, definitely been to that one before. I spent the first 21 years of my life in Long Beach and *never* made it to Catalina Island. Ridiculous, I know. Almost went my last visit, but ran out of time. Maybe next decade.

Oh you gotta hit Catalina. It's fantastic!! It's like a quiet island get away from the bump and grind of the mainland.
