I thought the Chevettes were great cars for what they were - basic, efficient transportation. AND they were hatchbacks.

I never owned one but we had a couple in the family back in the day. They served well.

I am a man and drive a G4. I have not noticed but will have to check out the gender of the drivers when I spot a Mirage. I think I see more women than men drivers.

Some guys think their vehicle is an extension of their masculinity so they would not drive a mirage. I can separate the two just fine, therefore I drive my mirage proudly, passing up gas stations and fitting in and through areas you can't in a big truck for example.

Chevettes were great cars, as long as you got the 4 on the floor. Those automatic trannies were abysmal. Oh, and if you didn't get a California model, loaded with barely-functional smog control pumps.

There were several Chevettes in my family too. Automatics. Bought by die-hard GM fans. I don't recall the malaise era GM quality being anything to write home about, but there are always exceptions. Much like the smokers who cite so-and-so smoked and drank a quart of whiskey a day and lived to be 97. Therefore, cigarettes aren't harmful. There was a reason why people lined up to buy Civics at over asking prices from dealers that treated customers like sh*t. I'm glad GM got the bail out, but that doesn't mean I'd deny they've made some pretty abysmal products over the years.

My parents bought a beautiful 1982 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme coupe brand new. Unfortunately, they bought the one with the DIESEL. That car was so bad my dad made giant lemons out of yellow construction paper, put his phone number on them, slapped them on both sides of the car, and parked it right out in front of Roy Comrie Oldsmobile in Pendleton, Oregon.

    'Nuff said...

On a related note, this was parked out in front of the Jeep dealership where I bought my Mirage. I'd have to be pretty pissed to do this to a new $35,000 rig, but since it's a Chrysler product I am not too surprised to see it.
