I see that a 5 to 5.5 inch rim is typically recommended for the 175/65R14's, so the OEM 4.5 incher's are already a compromise, but so far it seems to be working well. Mine is dead smooth while straight line, but there is a faint wiggle in the wheel as I'm finishing a long, high speed sweeping type of turn. I suspect I have one tire that's not quite right, so I'll rotate them and see.
Do you happen to know the rim width on the Euro spec cars?

According to GPS, at 50mph on the speedometer, I am going 51.5 MPH.
Now, this is really splitting hairs. That's with the speedometer needle exactly centered in the 50MPH tick mark.
With the old tires, GPS was showing 49.5
This is the calculator that I was playing with while exploring possible alternative tire sizes.

You can use this calculator to determine your actual speedometer error when changing to non-OEM size tires:

I replaced my stock tires with 175/65R14 Starfire RS-C 2.0 tires on all 4 corners. About 8,000 in amd I'm very happy. Much better cornering grip. Don't feel like I slide thru corners now. $48/tire at Pep Boys.
