Not dumb at all. I should have mentioned that I used the mitsubishi stuff at first until I found a much

With that much material in the pan, it certainly makes you wonder if a restricted filter was limiting fluid flow at some point.

I'm still somewhat stunned by the lack of mention of the filter in the service manual. I may have to put that into the same category with "lubed for life" ball joints that never need servicing...

That's possible, I'll cut the filter apart one day.

How much biggers the cvt trans you gatta drop the sub? That's terrible! i was able to sneak the 5spd out no problem. Sucks you have to do that.

Are you going to pull a filter on any of the good running cars?

I haven't seen a 5 speed mirage tranny but they usually are much her cars to see how they look.

Atleast the entire solenoids and block(??) assembly is serviceable without pulling the trans. I would've never guessed.

I appreciate your laxidasical thought process about dropping the sub lol -- maybe I'm showing my youth but that's always a huge deal in my mind.

    Cool. Thanks.

It took a bit of trial and error loosening off bolts to get the valve body out.

So, it's an externally mounted filter cartridge - interesting. What are it's dimensions? What kind of gasket is used for the housing? It looks like the housing has only one bolt and a tab that fits under something.

    Nice find.
