CVT Failure (at 304,000 km / 189k miles, delivery vehicle)

I finally had a cvt fail in a Mirage. It has 304000kms on it. It looks pretty bad! Not worth trying to patch this one back together.

    Blow that cooler out mang

    Edit: just followed your link...

So your suggesting that, that filter could be retrofitted? I would be curios why it's not there in the firstv place. Unrelated but Im reasonably sure there's no bushings in the door hinges, either. Lol

Great find if it works !

    Oh haha

Your pictures had me thinking the mirage was filterless with magnetic donuts vs an actual filter.

Either way, 190k miles out of a CVT is great!

How often was that CVT serviced? Nearly 200k miles is pretty good!

I just read through the CVT portion of the service manual and never saw anything explaining the removal and replacement of the filter?!?

This is probably a dumb question, but did you use Mitsubishi's transmission fluid? I read somewhere that using anything other than their fluid would cause issues. I don't know how true that is, but better safe than sorry.

Not dumb at all. I should have mentioned that I used the mitsubishi stuff at first until I found a much

With that much material in the pan, it certainly makes you wonder if a restricted filter was limiting fluid flow at some point.

I'm still somewhat stunned by the lack of mention of the filter in the service manual. I may have to put that into the same category with "lubed for life" ball joints that never need servicing...
