As you know, we bought a '17 Mirage. So far, I love it (just got 41.1 mpg on the first tank!). I wrote a blog post about how we'll be selling our '13 WRX (265 hp) and replacing it with the Mirage (78 hp).

HP reduction = fuel economy gain + you still get to where you gotta go + less money spent doing so.

And in time you can expect this will get even better.

In some ways, the WRX was the oddball. I already had a 2007 Toyota Yaris (106 hp), had a Suzuki Sidekick (95 hp). I've also owned a 1979 Civic 1200 (54 hp), and several other low-hp vehicles. The WRX was my first 200+ hp vehicle.

The funny thing is that if you add up the horsepower of our '17 Mirage (78) our '07 Toyota Yaris (106), and our '89 Delica Star Wagon (87 hp), only then do you exceed the horsepower rating of our WRX.

Great read! I always get a reaction when I tell people how much I paid for the Mirage. They are seriously cheap for what they are. Yes, it's "slow" but really, it's a perfect car for driving from A to B. I am planning on Autocrossing it next year just to see how it does as I've read on here that the Mirage is actually pretty nimble on a Auto-X course!
