    17 Jetta S 5spd?

I saw this offer at a local dealer.

is this car worth it? I test drove it and is huge improvement and still get around 37 mpg with my driving. Anyone has any experience with the 1.4T? My mom had two Passats and had issues.

A coworker's son has a '16 Jetta, bought brand new. She says it is a piece of sh!t. In the shop all the time for electrical stuff, so, you know, a typical VW.

Exactly. VW just can't seem to get it right with electrical issues. Maintenance and parts costs are crazy expensive too.

Those are junk. Anyone I've ever known who has had a jetta has issues with it. The passat was/is only slightly better.

My mother has a Jetta, a 2011/12 model, and it hasn't had too many issues. Just the headlights going out, mostly, and also the headliner has started detaching after 5 years. Otherwise, the car has been perfectly reliable.

My friend has a 06 that has over 350k miles on it, it had wiring issues with the door harnesses and a sensor goes bad every 50k on the evap but other than that his has been good. I know driving a 1.4turbo is absolutely amazing and feels luxurious while getting 37 mpg it's tempting.

A guy in my office has a used Jetta TDI with 100K miles. He had an oil sample done and it came back with extremely high iron levels. He didn't know it, but some VW diesels have a problem with camshaft lobes wearing prematurely. So he's going to have it checked, and will probably end up putting a new cam in the thing when it's due for a timing belt. Now the automatic trans is acting up and will probably need a rebuild.

He spent almost as much on his used Jetta as I did on my new Mirage with 10 year warranty. And I'm getting better mileage than him...but I don't have the heart to tell him that.

Sure glad I don't have to put on the high miles like some of the cars in this thread. Jetta / VW may have some issues, but it's in another league than Mirage. The latter may be reliable, but even as a proud owner of one, there's no denying that it feels cheap / tinny and primitive in comparison to the VW products - even after some of them, Jetta in particular, have been de-contented to bring down the price. Don't get me wrong - I love my Mirage. But I accept it for what it is and isn't.
