For twelve-and-change I'd probably take a punt on one if I were in the market...

I had a 2001 Golf 2.0. I enjoyed driving it but was always disappointed in its fuel consumption. Also it was heavy for its size.

Stay far, far away from VW if you can. They are notorious for electrical problems and low quality interior components. Want proof? Look for used New Beetles, Jettas, and Golfs on Craigslist (or equivalent) and try to find one over 100k miles with no issues and a nice interior. It will be difficult to find one!

I love my 92 MK2 GTI 16v, with that.. I would NEVER buy a newer, late model VW.

Too complicated. Too heavy. Too much electrical power crap to go wrong.

My manual sunroof and windows and side manual togglers work grreat still and I have owned it since 1999.
