Easiest way to get to the filter for me is from the top.
Stand over the passenger side fender and reach down with your right hand between the front of the engine and the radiator.
That's what I do.
If you oil the filter gasket and install the filter by hand, you should be able to remove it by hand in most cases.
I only needed a filter wrench to remove the original oil filter.
