Were you at RC Hill or something? They consistently advertise the lowest prices in the country, but I have no clue how they arrive at their numbers (and it sure isn't explained on their website!). Here's a typical 2017 SE CVT they have listed for $8630...which is almost 50% off of MSRP?!?

With sales taxes and dealer fees varying around the country, it's tough to make an apples-to-apples comparison. What is the price of the car excluding sales tax and fees? How much are all of the dealer fees including doc/admin fees, license, title, etc?

At least you had the good judgement to walk out. Unfortunately, this sounds like typical cheesy dealer tactics. If you insist on doing business with these guys, I would do all your negotiating through email at this point and not return there until you have a firm price on a purchase order.

It sounds like you haven't read this thread. This could be a serious problem that can't be fixed in 20 minutes. A simple alignment check would tell you what the problem is.
LOL, you hit the nail on the head. It was indeed RC Hill. Supposedly, it is possible to get the car for that cheap but the number of people eligible for all the rebates is very small. Here's the breakdown....$750 Mitsu rebate, $500 military rebate, $250 owner loyalty, $250 Hurricane Irma assistance (you have to have verified insurance claim for vehicle damage), $250 if you own a Saturn/Isuzu/Suzuki/Scion, and $250 if you finance through Ally. I think I got all of the rebates....I'm only eligible for the $750. I think the price before taxes and fees was $12900, although that might include $289 for "pinstripe" and their mandatory dealer fee of $899, which is where they make up the loss from advertising it so ridiculously low. They had other fees listed at $535, which supposedly was the cost of a new tag (new tags are expensive here as the tag belongs to you not the car). The pinstripe as well as other padded fees is where I figured I had the leeway to easily get them down to $14k, maybe $500 lower if they were desperate for a sale. I think they would have given in some as they kept asking me what I would take it for. I was going to say $12k to really low ball them, but I wasn't in the mood to continue the numbers game.

RC Hill is not desperate for a sale. They are one of the biggest Mitsubishi dealers in the U.S.

When it comes to shopping around (comparisons) it is the potential customer who should be asking for the best price.

Based on what you're saying, your numbers break down like this...

    Price of car...12,462
    Rebate...........-750
    Subtotal.......11,712

    Pinstriping.......289
    Doc Fee...........899

    Your price.....12,900

MSRP on a 2017 SE CVT is 17,135. The invoice price is probably $350 less than that. Regardless of all the numbers they are juggling, all you care about is the cost of the car before mandatory charges that you will be paying no matter where you buy the car (sales tax and Florida tags).

If you are only eligible for the $750 rebate, $12,900 sounds like a good price for a 2017 SE CVT. There must be some significant manufacturer-to-dealer incentives going on right now because that price is $4,000 below invoice. Surf around and see if anyone can touch that. Everyone should be willing to deal on 2017s.

I think I would also price a 2018 while you're at it. Even if it's another $500, it may be worth it for the newer features...

When I was shopping my mirages I called that RC hill because for 9k or whatever they were advertising I would have flown down 1 way and driven it home.

It only took 3min on the phone for me to read between the lines and tell the slimy guy I was talking to to go kick rocks, in the nicest way possible lol.

Problem is, Florida allows unlimited doc fees.

Yeah...some of the "Doc Fees" people quote down there are absolutely crazy.

Good advice. When I bought my Mirage in December of 2014 I originally went in to look at a leftover '14 model (black ES manual). I hated the black...and the PURPLE seats that came on all ES models that year...but figured I could live with it if I got a good deal on it. After all, it was going to be a 'work car'.

After crunching some numbers I learned that a fresh-off-the-boat '15 ES manual would only be $250 more than what I was looking at, and I could have any color I wanted. Plus, they got rid of the purple seats for '15! They had a red '15 ES manual at a dealership about 100 miles away, so I bought it and they brought it down.

That one model year of depreciation between the '17 and '18 may make the '18 worth a few hundred dollars more.
