Just as I thought. Nothing to do with actual evidence or even a single issue brought up but ripping on the power. I didn't even read past number 9 as it's a BS list.
Yet another disappointing review. I'm surprised the 1.0 liter 3 cylinder Geo Metro engine didn't make the list based on the author's criteria.

Lol i like how one of the most influential and iconic performance engines of all time is on the list (flathead)
I'd hardly call the Mirage engine 'a bucket of bolts in a blender'. And with the manual, it's not dangerously slow. I haven't had a lick of trouble with my entire car, much less the engine, in over 2 years of driving. And compared to say, a 1976 Buick 3.8 liter or a FCA slant 6 from the late 70's, it's pool of mercury smooth.
Lol Mivec engines aren't bad. Why would someone want to hate on a small car with a small engine? I mean, the Mirage is like the New Geo. I would prefer a new car to be very similar to the Old Mini. Even the new Minis aren't like the Old ones. Smh.

The author quoted Car and Driver and said there is nothing to love in the Mirage. Really? How about the fuel economy? How about the low price? How about the technology that is usually found in cars much more expensive? There is plenty to love about the Mirage.
Like Ranny, I do not find my Mirage to be dangerously slow or underpowered. Maybe I'm just used to driving small cars with small engines, but it seems to me to be quite normal. If you find it to be dangerous, then I would have to question your driving because you are making risky moves no matter what car you have.

It still amazes me how so many self-professed 'automotive experts' on the internet believe that the Mirage's lack of speed is some kind of horribly embarrassing oversight on Mitsubishi's part. The Mirage isn't fast because IT ISN'T DESIGNED TO BE FAST, as we here all know.
It is designed to be inexpensive, reliable, and economical. "Fast" simply isn't in it's mission statement. It's like that old car joke:
"Inexpensive, fast, or reliable...you can pick any TWO!"
If the company that made the Evo wanted the Mirage to be fast then I think it's safe to say it would be!
PS: Does the kid who wrote this article know that the Ford Flathead V8 is on Ward's list of the Ten Best Engines of the 20th Century?
