The service manual shows one weird way using a tool with a microphone. Page 11A8-11A11. Or by deflection. I don't know how to copy the pages and post them.
I just go by feel and make sure it doesn't squeal at all under load with the ac on.

    Look at this thread:

    Belt Tension Howto

It explains how to get it to proper tension, and includes an mp3 audio recording you could play outside on your mobile phone, for example. You just "twang" it until it does so in the correct pitch to match the recording. Actually very simple.

Wonder why that thread isn't sticky...

I think I've got a recording good enough to hear the "rattle".
    Let's see..
Turns out I dunno how to attach audio file here so here's a link to hear it from Google Drive.

I've had a loud squeal for the past 2 weeks in the morning when starting my car. I decided a dealership visit was not necessary. I swapped out the OEM serpentine (I know, I could've tightened it, but eventually would have gone Gatorback anyway), to a Gatorback. It may just be me, but it sounds a little quieter too. Below is the difference in the way they are manufactured.

I've had belt squeal issues with both Mirages right from new. Usually at startup if it's wet/raining or if car was parked after driving in the rain. It's happened while driving if I run through a puddle or heavy rain where there's excessive water on the pavement.
Most vehicles will squeal if the belt gets wet but I find the Mirage with stock belt to be more prone to it than most.
After dealership and I sort out my exhaust rattle issues I plan on swapping out the stock belt to further quiet things down.
Gatorback looks like a good option if I can find them here.

I love Gatorback. If you need help getting one to you let me know, would be no problem. Belt was only $15.

    Are all 5060485's the same?

Dayco's 5060485 is listed at Amazon to fit the Mirage but Continental Elite's equivalent 4060485 is not.

Continental/Goodyear 4060485 is cross-referenced to Dayco 5060485. I always use manufacture cross reference on their websites before using any other sites part number equivalent. I installed the 4060485 and it's a perfect fit. Pic installed below.
