More likely they're going into rent-a-car fleets. I've seen plenty of references (and a few reviews like this one) of rental Mirages.
I can attest Enterprise bought a LOT of Mirages in 2014. I haven't seen any in their fleet since but then I'm not renting a small car every weekend like I used too.

    U.S. April sales

2069 Mirages sold last month, vs. 2136 in April 2017.

    For the company overall:

April 2018 sales of 7,990, down 4.6 percent compared to April 2017. For calendar year, total sales are 43,762 up 16.6 percent over the same period last year.

    end of monthly sales reports?

    An interesting aside:

Last month, GM said they will no longer report sales on a monthly basis (a tradition they started many decades ago). They argue the monthly ups & downs are meaningless -- too much variability. So they're going to report quarterly instead.

I believe Ford has said they're going to follow suit.

I wonder if Mitsu will switch to quarterly also. I imagine there's little advantage (and possibly a disadvantage) to reporting monthly when your competitors aren't.

I, for one, will miss the monthly sales report.

For years, I tracked small car sales on SubcompactCulture.com. I stopped doing it because it was a time suck and didn't get that many views. I still find them interesting, however.

I'm a big nerd for the stats, myself.

And I enjoyed the small car sales roundups that you did on your site.

Timothy Cain must be laughing at his good timing -- I do believe he sold his GoodCarBadCar site last year. Its monthly traffic is likely to drop off, if they're not updating the numbers regularly.

    Canada April

207 Mirages sold. That's on par with last year's monthly average (209).

Interesting: the Outlander Plug-in Hybrid is apparently a big hit in Canada...

Outlander PHEV, the world’s best-selling plug-in hybrid SUV has notched more vehicle sales in a given month in April than any other plug-in hybrid in Canada ever*. Last month, Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada (MMSCAN) delivered 589 Outlander PHEVs to customers helping the vehicle reach a cumulative total of 1,344 sold in 2018.

That's even more than it has sold in the U.S. (1269 Outlander PHEV's sold to date in 2018).

    Good May numbers

3101 Mirages delivered in the U.S. last month!

-- 2nd best month this year
-- up 32% vs. May of last year (2342 sold)
-- one of only 6 months of 3k+ sales

Maybe fuel prices near 3 year highs are starting to move more cars?

Year-to-date sales are down a bit though: 10,702 vs. 11,948 at this point last year.

Overall, an excellent month for the company:

Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) reported its best May sales month since 2007 with 12,416 units sold, up 31.7 percent compared to May 2017. For calendar year, total sales are 56,178 up 19.7 percent over the same period last year.

Canada: best May total sales ever

221 Mirages sold = best month so far this year, but it's actually down from last May (274). This despite record or near-record gas prices in much of the country.

However the company as a whole had its best month ever. They sold lots of plug-in Outlanders last month (more than Mirages): 590 deliveries.

Mississauga, ON – June 1, 2018 – With 2,711 vehicles sold in the month of May, Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada, Inc. established a new record achieving its best monthly sales in its history. Vehicle sales also surpassed last year’s May record sales by 20 per cent. SUV sales increased by 59 per cent over last year for the month.

Nissan sold more Micras in May (741) than any other month this year, but its year-to-date sales are also down, like the Mirage's (-20% in the Micra's case).

Cars the Mirage outsold in May...

With 3101 Mirages sold in the U.S. last month (32% more than May 2017), here's the small car competition it left in the dust.

Note how many models' sales have dropped, year over year:

    • Fiat 500: 264 OUCH! (down from 1240 in May 2017) ... related thread: Fiat leaving U.S? Trying to boost 500 sales with turbo-only engine for 2018
    • Chevrolet Sonic: 1187 (down from 2143) *
    • Chevrolet Spark: 638 (up from 357, but 2017's May figure was during a stop-sale. Down from 3495 in May 2016) *
(* Not sure how reliable the GM figures are -- got them from http://carsalesbase.com/us-car-sales-data/chevrolet/ -- but GM stopped releasing monthly corporate sales info in April.)
    • Toyota Prius C: 818 (down from 1121)
    • Toyota Yaris: 139 OUCH! (down from 852)
    • Toyota iA (Yaris sedan AKA Mazda 2 sedan): 2,861 (down from 3,444)
    • Mini Cooper: 926 (down from 983)
    • Hyundai Accent: 2,471 (down from 5,773 -- and this is with a brand new model for 2018)
    • Kia Rio: 2,181 (up from 1187 -- brand new model for 2018)

    Cars that beat the Mirage:

    • Nissan Versa (sedan + Note): 6,576 (down from 9,006)
    • Ford Fiesta 5,110 (up from 4,181)
    • Honda Fit 4,976 (down from 5,105)

The Fiesta's increase may be due to the fact that Ford has cancelled it for the U.S, so factory incentives are probably high to clear it out.
