MirageSo, the OEM tires on my 2014 Mirage are pretty much shot after 16,000 miles. I know they're supposed to last longer than that. I don't do any drifting or burn-outs with my car. Why did they wear out so quickly? I rotated per manufacturer's suggestion.
Walmart has some Solar 4XS 175/65R14 82H Tires for $32 each. How bad can they be? They have lots of positive reviews. Compared to Enasave at $123 each and assuming a 5% loss in mpg it seems like I could get a 20% decrease in cost / mile over the life of the tire if you just consider tire and gas cost.
Here are the numbers at same tire life:
Enasave $533 / 35 mpg = $0.105 / mile tires & gas
Solar $148 / 33 mpg = $0.084 / mile tires & gas
If the Solars last twice as far then:
Solar = $0.080 / mile tires & gas - not much different so not too dependent on tire life.
If there is a 10% loss in mpg, or 5% more than originally calc'd then there is 5% more loss in savings.
It appears that you'd need a 25% loss in mpg to make the costs equivalent between the 2 tire specs. So I guess I know what tires I'm going to buy to replace those Enasaves.
