I don't think anyone has had an issue with their manual transmission itself being bad.

Custom Mirage products: Cruise control kit, Glove box light, MAF sensor housing, Rear sway bar, Upper grill block

Current project: DIY Nitrous oxide setup for ~$100

I agree. It seems clutch adjustment is the likely cause but it's hard to tell from here.

Tell that to my 2nd gear synchro

If adjusting the clutch further out makes it better your flywheel is warped

In that case I would expect a report of the symptoms of a warped flywheel such as noise or chatter.
The original post does not mention that.

I was going to say this would be the first manual to have experienced any sort of failure and some cars have 100,000 + miles on them. I'm guessing the tranny is as tough as a Ford top loader from everything I've read.

Growing up we were a GM family and generally disparaged Ford & Chrysler products. The washing machine reference would have served nicely.

Remember when they bought Philco, in the 60's? There were Philco/Ford appliances on the market for years.

Did you try out the Redline gear oil? How are you liking it?

    You need 75W80, GL4, certainly not a 75W90 GL4 and 5.
Despite the rating, a 75W90 is much thicker when cold than a 75W80. Now, according to the rating, both should be about equal when cold, but this is almost always not the case!
You may want to do some research in the net, in particular download the data sheets of your favorite sort of oil and compare the cold and warm viscosities to competing products.
There definitely are reasonably priced fully synthetic 75W80 GL4 available! Take your time to do some searching on the net and you will find.
